How loose objects turn into projectiles

You might not think that mailbox out front or the lawn chair on your porch poses much of a threat, but in the case of a high-wind event, those smaller items turn into projectiles that could harm you or your property!

In storms, winds can get up to hundreds of miles per hour. For larger items, this may not be as big of an issue since it takes more to move them as far. But for smaller and more compact items, this means winds can carry them far and wide at ridiculous speeds.

An important thing to note here is that because objects like mailboxes, logs, and more are more compact, when clashing with areas of the home, they pack more of a punch. That means they can damage more key aspects of the home’s foundation and target some of those weaker points, like areas of the roof and around windows or pipes. Ventilation can even take a hit, making it harder to combat the storm.

A key takeaway we offer is tying down even smaller ticket items that might damage the home even moreso than the larger items. Use your judgement to make decisions based on size, weight, and how likely they are to puncture the home.
