A quick debrief on your roof

Whether you’re a new homeowner or you’re on your tenth tiny home, you probably know a bit about how important a roof is to your property.

Your roof is one of the main elements of your home’s survivability and needs to be able to withstand heavy amount of snowfall, rain, wind, and in some cases, even fire!

So it’s important to understand how you can keep your roof safe and doing its job: keeping you and your loved ones safe.

The best thing you can do to protect your roof is to reinforce it. Make sure you’re using metal or multi-composition shingles to ensure that you’re getting the best bang for your buck. Replacing an entire roof can be costly and time-consuming, so by ensuring that the outside of your roof is in the best condition, you can sleep tight at night knowing you’ve done the best you could.

Another element of roof maintenance is clearing any vegetation or debris off of the roof as much as possible, especially during storm season. By reducing the amount of weight on the roof as well as ensuring there isn’t anything wrong with the shingles underneath, you get a better picture of your risk.

Finally, making sure you have hurricane clips or similar ties in your roof can help hold it together in the case of a heavy wind event.

These reinforcements have been shown to greatly reduce the risk of a total collapse of the property.
