Why are storm shutters important?

If you don’t live in a hurricane-prone area, you probably don’t have storm shutters around your windows or openings on your property.

But if you do live in wind-disaster-prone country, these sturdy pieces of wood or metal could mean the difference between a partial and total loss for you and your loved ones.

Storm shutters look like the image above, and they help keep projectiles and flying objects away from vulnerable areas of your home.

When you think of the siding of your property, you know there are layers embedded in the foundation to keep you safe (from high or low temperatures, from bugs, from winds and fires, etc).

But when you look at a window or a door, for instance, there’s a lot less of a barrier between you and the outside world.

Of course, we need windows and doors (to keep us sane) but they do pose a safety hazard when it comes to hurricane activity. Because of that lack of layering, they are more susceptible to damage and could be the weakest link when it comes to protecting your prized possessions.

We recommend adding storm shutters to areas of your home that you believe are most susceptible, preferably metal shutters that roll up or pull out like an accordion. They provide the most stability in the event of a disaster.
